I've a '01 Aero with the auto trans. In the past, I have had four 9000's from a 5 spd '86 through a '96 CSE. The '86 had the same "Snap your neck" acceleration - once the turbo spooled up - that you speak of on the SPG. The "Snap" was so bad that I regularly cracked the upper engine mount/brace (the big aluminum thing). I also attracted attention from a lot of State Troopers. I had to get rid of the '86 if I was going to keep a license.
The "01 Aero is much much smoother - but the 0-60 times are a good 1 - 1.5 seconds faster than the '86. More refined - sure, but I do miss that "Snap".
