Nordic ECU upgrade

We have a 2001 9-5 base wagon 2.3t. Thinking of an ECU upgrade to get more power (not that it's really lacking as is, but as they say, the more the merrier, especially when you are in a tight spot). How difficult will it be to swap the chip/ECU as the end user? I live in MA, so Wigwam in Providence can take care of all warranty issues when we are driving near home. However, on long summer road trips, I'd like to swap the original ECU back in before driving out of New England, just in case the engine can't put up with the added stress on long summer days and I don't want to be at the mercy of an unscrupulous dealer out in the plain and mountain states where they are miles apart and used to monopolistic power. I used to see old 900's with hood open by the side of the road along I-90 quite often when I drove between Boston and Buffalo, NY in summer; no intention of becoming one of them. I had experience with BMW JimComforti chips before; the swap back and forth was easy as a cake walk. The back up original ECU also avoided accidental over-writing when dealer uploaded the newest and greatest updates from BMW.
Also, with the Nordic upgrade, does it only affect "sport mode" driving or does it change normal mode as well? I have an automatic, and frankly don't really mind the leisurely normal mode in daily driving if that means longer engine longivity. I just want as much power as possible for the occasional passing moves.
thanks,
Jim
