I have two '01 9-5 lpt's. I've run one on 87 the entire time, the other I've used 87, 91 and 93 -- I really don't feel a difference in power, and the mpg improvement (which was my main issue) is slight at best, at the higher octanes. I'll be going back to 87 octane in the other car at the next fill up, and that's pretty much the end of my experiment, although since both cars only have around 5,000 miles on them I may try again at 10k just to see if there's any change after a more substantial break-in.
I've seen folks here mention altitude and temperature as other factors that may affect the car's performance at the different octane grades. I'm in NYC and have only had them since summer, so maybe had I done this at a different time of year my results would have been different.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'low rpm bogging down' -- but these cars have what has been described as 'turbo lag' no matter what gas you use. I've found Sport mode helps decrease it, though.
