Maybe it's because I'm an engineer, but I've always hated spoilers on FWD cars because I know they are just for looks. I think it would be a shame to "spoil" the clean lines of the 9-5 exterior. If you must have a rear spoiler, keep it small and classy so that it fits in with the overall styling of the car. Just my opinion.
On a related note, I really wanted to like the Nissan Maxima when I went car shopping, but I could not deal with the rear end of that car. It is just ugly with those goofy tail lights. The mandatory spoiler on the SE just makes it worse. I ruled out the Maxima in favor of the I30 just because of this. Regardless, I ended up with a 9-5 in part because IMHO it is better looking than any of the Jap sedan offerings. Saab chose simple, clean basic design versus tacked-on flare.
