A sway when you hit a bump is usually one bad rear shock, it throws everything off (two bad rear ones would bounce but not shimmy). It wasn't very obvious on visual inspection, even pushing down on the rear corners only gave a subtle clue as to which one. Monroe may have been looking for really obvious signs.
I DIYed the rears on my Aero, IIRC, OEM parts for both added up to $160 -- usually best to do both. It is a 'strut' assembly but it isn't as complicated as a typical front strut. A shop coupld probably do both in under 90 minutes.
