I ran across some posts on NG900 about a stripped bolt, but it was the lower, which has much better access. (The answer was a bolt extractor). I think I'm giving the problem to a professional since I've run out of time.
The job is like the rest of the 9-5 jobs: tons of semi-daunting-looking disasembly before you get to the actual issue.
I did try swinging the alternator around on the top pivot but it didn't help any. Since the bolt was completely rounded anyway, I also tried just air-ratcheting the heck out if it with some larger bits to no avail. The real solution is to drill out the head and use a good old fashioned extractor, but I lack to right angle stuff to get that done effectively.
Now to find a shop that won't just say 'no' ;)
