I am just going through this because the engine heater I ordered installed in my 2002 got to the dealer about the same time I did to pick up the car. I bought it from out of state. They gave me the heater and I figured I would have a local mechanic install it. (I'm in Montana and am a long ways from any dealer). It's more complex than it sounds. It's not the usual frost plug heater, but goes into a hose near the engine. The directions are for the old V6 from the 9000. That engine was not turbocharged, so it made sense to follow the directions and go in from the top. I am told that in the 9-5's, there is so much turbocharger plumbing from the top, you need to go in from the bottom after removing a cover. It takes real skill to install from there without removing one turbocharger duct, so most mechanics remove one to get at the hose. I haven't actually tried this yet, because my independent Saab mechanic is on vacation. If all else fails, have your mechanic contact the service manager at Dana Motors, Billings Montana. They are Montana's only authorized Saab dealer and know how to do this. Good luck.
