The older Saab turbos used only the oil to cool the turbo bearings. The new water jacketed units are a lot more forgiving than the older oil cooled units.
Just the same, I would never come to a stop after a lot of high boost driving and just shut the engine off. In those cases it is still a good idea to let the engine cool by driving slowly for a few miles, or idling for a few minutes.
