Saw a 2002 Arc today ...

I was as Don Mackey Saab in Tucson, AZ this morning and they had a single 2002 9-5 Arc on the lot. I didn't get to drive it, but did get to look it over. There was an 01 Aero sitting 1 car down in the row, so I got to compare side-by side. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the exterior revisions for 2002. I prefer the head and tail lights on the 2001, since I think they have more "class". The new clear lights remind me of a Japanese car. As far as the new grill, I could take it or leave it. The new headlight washers are funny. They sit under little covers on the bumper, and to me those covers just look like plugs to fill the holes where the wipers used to be. When I first looked, I forgot that there was anything functional under there. Overall, of course, the exterior styling changes are subtle. Mixed feelings about the new wood dash. It definitely has a more natural texture than the old, but didn't like the color as well. I also did see the new "metallic" dash mounted in a 2002 9-3. Yuck. The previous wood dash is much nicer IMHO. I assume that this is the same as will be in the 2002 Aero. The sales person confirmed that vented seats will not be available in the Aero except by special order. On the functional side, I did notice that the 2002 has vented disks on the rear. This seems like a good thing. The sale person said that the 2002 Arc has the same brakes as the 2001 Aero. I thought the Aero required 17" wheels to provide enough clearance for the big calipers? The 2002 Arc still had 16" wheels.
