I found out why my Xenon to halogen wiring didn't work Posted by Saabpilot [Email] (#134) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saabpilot) on Sun, 18 Feb 2007 21:17:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Car is 2003 9-5 Aero. As I mentioned recently in prior posts, I jumpered pins 87 and 87a, also known as pins 5 and 2 on the wiring diagram, of Relay 666 aka FR1. Nothing happened.
Tonight I verified that I have continuity between those pins with my jumper removed and with the relay removed. So what gives? Well, I started tracing wires and comparing them to the wiring diagram I have from a 2003 WIS diagram and guess what? My car is NOT wired like the diagram.
From pin 5 / 87a I have two violet wires which I'm assuming are the halogens. From pin 2 / 87 I have one white wire that splits to two whites and a grey, not just two whites as teh diagram indicates! The gray goes back into another relay. From pin 3 of relay 666 / FR1, the gray splits into two greys AND a red/grey wire that goes to fuse 4.
Just from this little bit of wire tracing I can see my car does not match the '03 wiring diagram. Checking the ID labels on the car, it was manufactured in 1/03. Could this be wired like another model year??? Is there a difference between the '02 / '03 or '03 / '04 headlight wiring?
I have fuse 35 removed to deactivate DRLs. I have verified that the halogens work fine with the light switch "off" when the high beam stalk is pulled...in fact I have brand new OSRAM Silverstar bulbs in there. I have verified that the Bi-Xenons work fine in both low and in high beam.
I'm about to order a WIS but it will take a while to get here. In the meantime, anyone have any ideas? I hope to get back working on this project Tuesday night. I want those OSRAM Silverstars on at the same time as the Xenon high beams!!
