If they aren't leaking and they pass the bounce test, leave well enough alone. I have replaced about a dozen shocks on saabs in 20 years of working in dealerships. The front struts are more likely to fail, but when they do you will see an oily mess and feel the loosy goosy in the front end. My brother had an 84 900 with 180,00 miles when the timing chain broke. It still had the original shocks, still working fine. May Thor bless the soul of that car.
Bounce the bumper and if it keeps bouncing the shocks may be bad, but if you see the dampening effect (car goes down, then up, then stops) the shocks are ok. There was a bulletin about the seepage of oil from the 9-3 shocks being normal. I wonder how many tire dealers have replaced perfectly good shocks because of the normal seepage.
