Hello:
No offense to those who do this for a fee, but there are no fixes to the problem, just patches. The design is flawed and the metallic glue they used is iffy. Unless the ribbon cable is removed and and reattached with a pin-contact connector or micro-soldered back on, it'll never be "fixed".
Shane - My first one, I went in 4 or 5 times. I needed to learn how to do it, and didn't want to overheat it. I had get the feel for the right heat, the right amount of time and the right pressure. I learned... and the second one I did for a friends car took 20 minutes to iron back to 100%, put back together and reinstall.
If I have to do mine again, it'll be 20 minutes I'm sure.
A 6mo warranty is really not much of a warranty. It's your reassurance that there's no real fix - just a patch that might hold up for 3 months, 6mos or 12mos - who knows. If it only holds for 3 mos, take another 20min and do it again. If you would have paid with a warranty, you could pay more for shipping there and back (part of warranty), and someone else will spend the 20 minutes.
Again, no offense to anyone that gets paid to do this fix. I too will happily fix these for $85 with a 6mo warranty. My only risk...I might have to fix your's twice. And if I can't fix it, I end up sending it back to you with your money back.
Remember, if you are wanting it fixed, it's probably unreadable. If it's unreadable, and you try to fix it, and the fix doesn't work...it's still just unreadable. No worse, no risk.
Feel free to email me if you want more info.
