UK car magazine also says 6.9s for manual, 8.1s for
auto. Sounds strange given that the older Aero
supposedly pulled 0-60 in under 7 seconds with the
auto in all the reviews I've seen.
However I've learned that a car can feel fast in a way
that belies these published figures. For instance,
my BMW 328i auto is supposed to do 0-60 in only 7.2s,
but it "feels" a lot faster than that. So I'm not one
to give these numbers a lot of credit and certainly
not about to make buying decisions based on them.
My testdrive of the Aero indicated that it has a lot
of midrange torque, and pulls up very smartly even at
freeway speeds. More than adequate. I do agree that
off the line, it could do a bit better - but the need
for drag-racing froms stoplights is seldom at best.
I tend to agree with some opinions expressed here
that the turbo really gets going once the car is
properly broken in. I definitely remember having
the same experience with my present Audi TT.
It was a lot faster after around 5k miles.
Also, turbo charged cars are sensitive to other
conditions - such as ambient temperature. Cool
dry air works best, compresses more easily (any
physicists out here?)
My TT definitely enjoys being driven on cool and
sunny winter days more than it does during the
90 degree summer days.
So factors like that can throw off the numbers
as well.
