white smoke is the classic sign of a leaky head gasket ... coolant leaks into the combustion chamber, is vaporized and blown out of the tailpipe.
however, depending on where the head gasket fails, it could be the opposite problem, combustion gases get forced into the cooling system.
When the head gasket failed on my son's C900 and you could see bubbles in the coolant reservoir. A friend of mine has a Jag that keeps blowing off a rad hose. in both both cases combustion gases are being forced into the cooling system.
it sounds like this your case as well.
I suppose that you could replace and properly torque the head bolts to see if that helps but its a pretty slim chance when the head gasket is as far gone as yours may be.
