Use peanut butter or peanut oil, and a rag to clean the excess wax from the trim area. Use a tooth brush to agitate the area and get the was out of all the tiny crevices. After cleaning away the unwanted wax on the trim, wash the area with regular car wash soap and water.
This is weird but works very well. I got the tip from an auto detailer.
