I have owned 13 Saabs since 1999, only one was an older model than 99. Here is what people do not understand about Saabs and oil. These turbos are oil lubricated and just get the oil too hot and they turn the oil to gel. I lost two engines putting in oil that just could not take the heat.
What I do now is use Amsoil. Amsoil is by far the best oil for cars that subject the oil to high heat. Get an Amsoil flush and start using Amsoil. Nothing comes close. Ever since I switched to Amsoil, I have had no problems with oil sludge. Even when I bought an old used 99 with a 120,000 miles, I immediately switched to Amsoil. After a few oil changes, I would bet you a million dollars any sludge problem it might have had was gone. Amsoil is designed to take the heat of a turbo and will easily do it for 7500 miles.
And no, I am not an Amsoil salesman.
It is considerably better oil than Mobil One or any of the other synthetic brands. Amsoil was the first synthetic oil and Mobil One could not copy Amsoil's process so Mobil One was never as good. Buy it online and you will get it for $5 or 6 a quart, about the same as Mobil One. A bonus; better gas mileage. I usually average an extra mpg or two with Amsoil. I only use Mobil One when the dealer puts it in for free at scheduled maintenance changes.
Make sure you get extended drain Amsoil filters when you buy the oil. These filters are also the best.
