I did this on my M99 9-5 Sedan with a Hella Raintronic kit. Basically, it's a fairly straightforward process, and it does work in the end (the dealer said it would require a new windscreen, which it did not; however, some windscreens may reflect too much infrared for the sensor to work. I have a w/s marked Securisol.

Its easy to run the wire to the sensor from the rearview mirror under the roof panel down the left pillar (the cover snaps off) and in under the steering wheel (by the fuse box).

All the wires required for the connecion are located at the windshield wiper switch on the steering column. To get to it, you need to remove three screws on the plastic covers on the s/w column and then remove the covers. I can get you a description of the wiring.

The only feaure you will lose is the ability to change the intermittent wiper delay time, because, obviously, the rain sensor mode will function instead of the intermittent wipe.

In general, it's a DIY job which takes about 1 1/2 hrs, a tester, a connector for a standard relay (I squeezed the new relay into a spare hole in the relay holder inder the steering wheel).

Usage comments - very nice feature, especially when driving in light rain or on a wet road. I personnaly hate to swith the wipers on and off to both keep the w/s clean and avoid extensie wear on the wipers/screen. Also, it cuts in nicely when you get a sudden splash of water from a car passing by. Negatives - reliability decreases when its 5-7 degrees below freezing, as ice forms on parts of the screen (over the sensor), it starts wiping even though the w/s is relatively clean.

Let me know if you need any more info.
