I think that what really made the difference for me was the extra step that the repair tech did on the circuit board for the 9-3:
The tech suggested reflowing, or retouching, the solder joints for all of the spots on the circuit board that had good potential to be stressed during the remove and replace of the board from the siren housing. He hit all of the joints where the components stuck up high enought to be snagged or stressed during R/R to ensure that these had good solid joints.
I've had no issues since, and I do think this extra step made a difference. I removed the siren and took it to a tech, because I did not trust my circuit board solder skills. My orange relay is ugly enough! Though it still works too. :)
