You will find numerous 4cyl Saab purists who basically favor any Saab-engineered engine over any GM-engineered engine. The V6 is a modified existing GM Europe engine, used, for example, in the Opel Omega and Cadillac Catera. The modification is the assymetrical turbo, which GM made unique only to Saab. (Again, there are posts about that too.) You will also find comments about a rubber belt which Saab will replace for free at 60,000 miles, vs the supposed reliability of the metal belt in the 4's. Many cars use rubber belts which work fine. As a preventive measure, the belt should be replaced over time. The difference with Saab is that they take care of it for you, rather than have you pay for it.
On the other side, you come to a concensus on this board from the V6 owners that they really like their cars. Again, this is not a "new" engine, in general, and, as a past Catera owner, I can tell you that there no negative history on this V6. It has some differences vs the 4 but its powerful and has great passing power.
Enjoy your new car!
