I was trying to trade my wife's 2000 Aero wagon (30K miles) on several different vehicles, including a new 2002. Interestingly, the local Saab dealer offered one of the lowest trade-in values @ $19K. The Ford dealer was the best offer with $22K. KBB and Edmunds listed the trade-in/wholesale at roughly $25K. And yes, I am completely aware of the "trade margin game" msrp vs. invoice vs. cost, blah, blah, blah. No lessons needed there.
Bottom line - Saab's have one of the worst resale values in the industry. However, this should not be a surprise to anyone familiar with this "quirky" end of the auto market. Not a whole lotta people jumping up and down screaming for Saab's. And, unfortunately, GM is doing all they can to realign Saab's unique space in the market. By 2004, GM will have cleverly repackaged the Aero to be more Impala-like.
