especially about doing it with the engine cold. On a similar note, when putting the new spark plugs in you do not want to cross thread them. Get a short piece of tubing and put one end over the top electrode and use the other end to turn the plug. A socket and extension also works, but the bottom line is you do not want to force the plug if it doesn't catch the first thread exactly right.
I would still suggest not getting the dielectric on the electrode. Dielectric grease is an insulator, not a conductor so I wouldn't want it between two pieces of metal that need to make contact. Maybe it wouldn't have a noticeable effect, but I would prefer a clean contact surface.
