If the car you mentioned is anything like the Citroen ZX sold in Europe, it's quite different from 9-3 and 9-5. ZX and its replacement Citroen Xsara are both designed as family cars for markets with very expensive gasoline. The engines generate only around 100hp. You should probably compare Citroen ZX to Ford Escort. You should probably decide on what you want in a car first, and what your transportation budget would allow. There are few things worse than an expensive garage queen that is too expensive to run or to maintain; that's why cars like the ZX, Escorts and Astra (on which the current 9-3 is based, but with much more powerful engine) find much appeal around the world. Don't let misguided nationalism sway you in your buying decisions though; it's your money, and the carmakers had better work hard to earn it. Americans certainly have no qualms about buying "made-in-China"; local Walmart is full of them, enhancing the real purchasing power of consumers rich and poor. International trade is great indeed.
