Some interesting lessons learned in 4 weeks... Posted by SaabNovice [Email] (#3416) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SaabNovice) on Wed, 13 Feb 2002 15:31:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've had my 1999 9-5 SE 2.3 (34K miles now) for a grand total of 4 weeks and have learned several things:
1. Never buy a used car (especially a Saab?) without remaining factory warranty. My car has had the following items replaced since I bought it: idler pulley, rusty muffler, ECM, brake light, rear struts (both). In the cars defense none of these have kept me from driving the car. A more conscientious owner should have caught these earlier. My dealer has spotted and corrected these issues.
2. I've owned a lot of foreign cars over the last 20+ years and the Saab has a unique driving feel. The seats are extremely comfortable, the cabin ergonomics feel right, and I love the ignition key in the console and the night panel display.
3. I live close to Atlanta and my 9-5 is the only one around. It draws a LOT of looks. People are used to the normal Lexus, BMW, MB, etc. at every stop light. I can't count how many people check out the car when they are beside me or when the car is parked. The car is dark (Cheyenne?) red so maybe that helps too.
4. I can see why people become Saab advocates. The car is fantastic and it is fun being part of a unique and rare group!
