I've had the hood protector in place for some months now; the smoke-colored version looks quite snazzy on a laser red 9-5, but, more importantly, it is saving the edge of the hood from the many nicks it was receiving in interstate travel. I have reservations about the mylar adhesive pads that cushion the plastic nubs against the hood's surface; one has already come off, although the paint seems all right where it had been. It is not difficult to remove when you wash the car, but be certain that the two clips on either side of the protector that anchor it to the hood edge do not fall off when you do remove it. You'll go blind trying to find them, especially if they fall into the engine compartment (or onto asphalt). My biggest complaint (other than the very vague installation instructions) is how it fits between the hood gasket and hood. I have trouble keeping the gasket (the rubber lining beneath the edge of the hood) in place, since the underside of the protector that bolts to the interior of the hood pushes the gasket away from its anchors. But it does look snazzy.
