remove cage with radio still in it?

Has anyone ever removed the radio cage with the radio still inside? My radio is stuck in there like concrete and I have tried everything to remove it (removed SID and ACC, pushed from behind the cage etc). I have the proper DIN tools and all that, still no luck.
So my next option may be to remove the cage altogether. Everything I see on removing the cage involves removing the radio first which is not possible in my case. Anyone ever take the cage out without pulling the radio first?
