I have a 2000 Saab 9.5 Wagon with a 4 cylinder engine.
Recently my wife told me every warning light came on and the speedometer went to 0. Happens with some regularity.
Now when you turn the car on the engine light is on and stays on.
What steps do I take to determine what is wrong?
Can I go to NAPA or Checker and have them hook up a diagnostic tool? Or, do I have to take it to a Saab dealer?
I have read where this is likely an ABS controller issue. Others have written where the diagnostics could tell me if it's the controller, brake fluid level, stuck valve, speed sensor etc. Will the diagnostics actually direct me in the right direction, or is it a crap shoot?
The reason I ask is a german mechanic shop I called said the code may state speed sensor etc. but oftentimes it is incorrect.
My wife is getting very frustrated with this car. We have driven it with no issues and suddenly we have alarm system code, the speedometer issue and the engine light.
Thanks.
