The huge initial depreciation has been attributed, by some on this board, to the incentives and discounts off MSRP out of the showroom.
But I think it creates really great deals out there for the rest of us. If you have the itch for the brand new car smell, you can lease a new Saab and let GM eat the depreciation. The sum of your payments (including interest), and buyout price can be lower than the MSRP minus Saab loyalty. If you don't mind a slightly use one, you can get the best deals on them. I just got an off lease 99 SE (4 cyl), with 25K for $17K (these deals are out there - I just saw another one with 35k for $14.5). I think this is an exceptional deal for a car I can expect to keep for 10 years (I put on about 25k miles/year).
Personaly, I capitalized on the initial depreciation. I think that once GM assimilates the brand and builds a large customer base they might start going out of the lot closer to MSRP.
