Joining the uneven tire wear club...and questions

So I did search the board first, so I think I know what the problem is....HOWEVER, the issue happened in only one tire, that happened to be in the front at this time. The tires happen to be at the end of their life cycle and I was planning to get new ones....
I guess that my question is what can I do to avoid ruining my new tires? I think that I won't get directional tires to extend the life a little longer if this issue comes back...
