I test drove a 2002 Aero yesterday. I asked about getting an Arc-type wood dash instead of the aluminum (which I'd never buy). The salesmans told me its an easy swap, and they have a number of darker wood dashes they got cheap from Saab USA when the wood tone was lightened. You may want to ask your dealer.
We talked a lot about that dash, then after the drive he quoted me a price and didn't say anything about making me pay extra to swap it out. If I decide to buy, I'll probably hold out for a free dash swap as part of the deal.
BTW, I was really impressed with the car. I've been a Beemer guy, love the looks of the new baby Jag but it doesn't seem to be peppy enough, was just checking out Saab in the interest of completeness (along with Audi, Lexus, et al). Imagine my surprise to learn such a roomy, well equipped and classy-looking car drives like that (with just a 4-banger under the hood! no "turbo lag" I could detect, either) and has a sticker price about like a smaller 330i or X-Type 3.0! I may just become a Saab man - its an aweful lot of car for the money.
