Here in SC, AWD would not be a significant advantage over a good FWD setup, all weather premium tires & traction control IMHO. Since it "snows" here maybe twice a year, that's not a consideration either. Back when I lived in ChiTown - snow tires were mandatory. With my FWD Honda hatch and Blizzaks, I literally drove all over the city, no problem. YMMV, this is just my $0.02, no flames please. On a wet, slick road, I guess a Scoobie WRX or Audi might be damn nice to have and I personally have never attacked 12" snow drifts with a car. Just skiis! :-p
