Having both 4 and 6 cyl experience - I am now becoming quite the fan of the 6 cyle in my '01 9-5 SE I also am averaging around 30 mpg on the freeway for trips, although I do get around 19 to 21 in the city. Regarding the timing belt thing - look at some of the previous posts. Saab does a nice thing and replaces it for you around 60K I believe.
Granted the 6 is a little noiser on quick exceleration - it is smooth - everyone has a different definition of smooth - so what I would recommend, is to test drive both and see what you prefer.
I see that you are driving a 93 9000 CS - I had an 88 9000T 5 door with 200K - In comparison with my '01 9-5 I enjoy the 6 a bit more. It is a little diffferent type of Turbo (I'm not to mechanical on this - so I hope I get this right!) that is, it is my understanding it really only feeds 3 out of the 6 cylinders. Someone else could probably explain this a bit more....
Bottom Line - drive them both as they are both GREAT CARS and see which one you prefer....
