1999-2009 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
On my previous 9-5 (1999 4cyl 5-speed man), the last set of tires I used were Michelin Primacy MXV4 (215/55 VR16). I considered them to be much better than the MXV4 Energy and MXV4+ Energy versions. The Primacy version was much smoother and provided a real nice ride. I also used Vredestein Wintracs for the Winter, and these were very smooth as well.
I traded the '99 9-5 for a 2008 9-5. The 2008 has Pirelli P6 tires. They are OK, but not as smooth as the Primacy MXV4 tires were. Unfortunately, Michelin doesn't make the Primacy MXV4 in the 235/45 VR17 size needed for the 2008.
While I think the people on this board don't necessarily hate the P6 tires, I would like to hear people's opinions of them. I would be particularly interested as to how they compare to Nokian WRG2 tires in terms of smoothness. Plus, since the WRG2 tires are considered a four season tire, I would be curious as to how they ride in the Summer temperatures versus the Winter temperatures.
The P6 tires are best sellers on Tirerack. So, I guess people are mostly satisfied with them in terms of price and ride versus the more expensive Pirelli, Michelin, and Nokians. Also, how well do the P6 tires do in the snow?
I would think that the 2008's traction control will be more helpful in the Winter with all-season tires versus the lack of traction control on my old 1999.
I'll check comments on the Tirerack site, but any comments from the people on this board would be appreciated.
