I had comment on this subject, because I believe there is a lot of misinformation.
I'm a Catera owner, so I see things from the other side.
First off, my Catera came with the aluminum cooler shown in the pictures from the factory. It eventually failed (leaked). In fact, there was a recall on the aluminum part to switch it over to the newer stainless part because so many of them were failing early in their service life (within 40,000 miles). It's up for debate if it's because of the dexcool coolant that they used at the time or if it's just a faulty part, but whatever.
Now, there is another bit of information that is a bit misunderstood for the part. Though I & others have referred to it as a cooler, it is in fact a heat exchange. It's purpose isn't to cool the oil at all, but to warm the engine uniformly & quickly. Having a turbo will not significantly affect it's job since it doesn't need to rapidly react to heat changes like a proper oil cooler or radiator does.
Hope this clears things up a bit. Believe me, this is a thoroughly covered subject in the Catera/Omega (European name for Catera) forums.
