I located the by-pass valve and replaced it today. Not a very easy job. I had a Saab technician read the codes, as I was getting an engine light code continually. He checked temperature sensor and claimed it was fine. Is it possible to have an internal leak in the by-pass valve that would cause crazy c00lant temperatures? I tested the by-pass valve when I removed it and found that by blowing air through the valve one of the outlet ports was leaking. I refilled with coolant ,allowed the engine to warm up and went for a drive. No engine light on. Time will tell.
