Almost 6 weeks from the day of ordering my Aero sedan has arrived - Silver/Charcol - Auto/AS3/Rain Sensor Wipers.
Like meeting an old friend that has aged gracefully - having had a '98 9-5 2.3se before.
As others on the board have noted - the steering/suspension is much more 'together' with really flat cornering and no perceptible body roll. In-town ride quality is really rather good (I've been driving a loaner 2002 93 5 Door Turbo (185bhp) SE for the last 10 days - the ride quality in town could be politely described as harsh) - the Aero for all its sporting capability is pretty supple.
The seats are just gorgeous - and lets face it no 9-5 I've ever driven has had poor seats - the Aero's are just that little bit better - more accomodating, more snug.
As another UK lister, Simon Watkins, has noted in previous posts - the Feb 2002 onwards UK spec Aero's have had a pile of optional kit added as standard - including Xenon lights - they are truly superb - like having 'Sports Stadium floodlights' bolted to the front of the vehicle - and again the Std lights on the pre-2002 9-5's were reckoned to amongst the best money could buy - the Xenons are just so bright with a consistent, uniform light spread, even better.
The reverse tilt passenger door mirror idea is cool - especially because it will only tilt the mirror after you have hit the, extra, minature button on the mirror touch pad (does that make sense?).
The AS3 sounds absolutely excellent - Goran Larsson, you were absolutely right - the rear parcel shelf sub-woofers have Harmon-Kardon logos. Thankyou! The sound quality is rich and rounded without excessive, unnatural bass.
The 5spd auto is so smooooooth - it does get better as you drive it - even in the short time I've had it. Topically - there is no vibration when stationary in 'D'.
Another topic from a while back was the delivery mileage. The PDI sheet said 1 mile - after road-test and as I took delivery this afternoon it had 3 miles on the clock.
Reading the Owner's handbook this evening it recommends not exceeding 5,000 rpm during the initial bedding in period - right then - given the little outing I've had this evening - that ain't going to be a problem!
The real truth, and this covers most vehicles, its not so much higher engine RPM (though spinning the engine hard is not smart) that's the problem - it is excessive loads on the cylinder bores that can cause damage, early on.
The worst culprit after 'revving the nuts off' is holding too higher a gear at low engine RPMs - this really forces the engine's pistons into the sides of the cylinder bores - and this is not good. Let the engine spin and change down - you are actually being kinder to your new engine.
Lastly a big thank-you to everyone on the board over the last couple of months for inspiration, guidance and giving me the courage to go and put real money on the line!
