Thanks again to all for the tips. It turns out there was about 1" of broken bolt sticking up after I removed the yoke. I failed the first attempt removing it with a vice grips and a pliers, and I have no welding experience or buddy, so I attempted to cut a notch with a dremel to remove like a screw. That was super slow and I finally broke the cutoff wheel, so I gave the vice grips one more try--success. Once loosened it could be turned by hand. Also, lucky for me, the location turned out to be the power steering mounting bracket so I could removed that & replaced with a salvage part if things had gotten real bad.
Looking forward to getting back on with the work (dropping oil pan + replacing water pump + radiator + serp belt + pulleys).
Thanks everyone. Derek
