Yes, the Saab 17" wheels will fit, using 225/45 or 235/45 tires. You can expect the following:
a: A harsher, more noisy ride
b: Crisper response on turn in
c: Better overall grip, but not outstandingly so.
d: Possible diminished acceleration and mileage. Remember, adding weight to the rotating mass has a much greater effect than just adding to the overall weight of the car. Some say by a factor of 10. So, if you add 5 lbs to each wheel, it would have a similar effect of adding 200 lb to the overall weight of the car. I have no idea what the difference in weight is between the std. 16" wheel/tire and the 17" but it might be worthwhile checking out. On my '99 SE, I replaced the 16" with 17" using max performance tires on Borbet Type E wheels. Handling improved and they looked great, but overall, IMHO, the car is nicer to drive on the 16's and I eventually switched back. My experience was about 1-2 mpg worse fuel consumption on the 17's. I'm going to try the 17's again with touring tires to see if I achive a happy medium.
