you might be using that deductible a lot... VW is way near the bottom in the reliability rankings. I have a friend who's family are long time VW/Audi owners. Both him + his parents have found VW quality/reliability to be going downhill. Maybe it's hit and miss, but his family had a 2007 rabbit that was tons of problems + traded that in on an A4. My friend had an A4 but traded it in on a BMW when it started getting needy (at <100k) because he was concerned about the local audi mechanics + knew a good bmw tech. His family lives elsewhere and has access to a fantastic Audi indy who undervalues his time, so the A4 works for them...

So that was my point... even more than for a SAAB: Make sure you find a good VW/Audi indy if you get a used one of those! A good indy who ideally specializes in the brand of choice (or at least is highly adaptable + an excellent details-oriented tech) is invaluable + will save a lot vs going to a dealer for everything... I suppose the exception is if you are under a warranty, a dealer is more likely to be the preferred route... I bought my 9-5 "as is" for a song last spring, did a few minor repairs through my indy + DIY shocks... it has been flawless + dirt cheap!

If I was unable to buy another Saab, Audi + Volvo would be high on my list, but I sure hope it doesn't come to that! I figure I have at least a decade now to wait and see...

James...
