My wife's 9-5 SE-V6 with 24K cost us $25K in January (Seattle). It is not a wagon, but has the same colors as yours. Our car did not come with new tires, extd warr, new battery, and didn't need new cup-holders. It did need a new memory seat computer and front grill (both replaced under warranty).
1. The computer system at Saab dealerships should be able to pull up all repair/warranty history even if the car was serviced at another Saab dealer. Don't put too much weight on what the salesperson tells you why the previous owner gave up the car. He will lie 75% of the time. The price is not all that bad, especially for the color.
2. The V6 is a GM/Opel design, I believe. A very similar motor is used in the Cadillac Catera (sans turbo). Most Saab efficienados (SNAABS) will tell you that the 4cyl Turbo is the only righteous way to go. If you are into modifications, they are correct. Longevity wise, though, I think the V6 is robust and will treat you well. Push the little "S" button on the Auto-selector, and you will be amazed at what the 3 liter asym. turbo can do. Traction control will be your friend. There are some rants about the intake noise (throaty). I like it.
3. Around town the V6-Auto will get you between 19-22mpg in the winter months using oxygenated gas. On the freeway/highway you can probably get between 24 and 26mpg. My wife does not drive on the freeway that much, so I do not have much data on that.
4. There are a few nifty options available for the wagon/9-5. See if you can get the CD changer thrown in with the deal ($450 otherwise, and there is no aftermarket version that will integrate). There is some form of a roll-out trunk floor avail. for the wagon. I hear high praises of this device.
Good luck!
Mileage: 37,500
Color: Silver exterior/graphite leather w/ heated seats
Asking price: $26,700
The salesperson I've been talking to has told me the car has gone through and passed the Saab Certified inspection, qualifying it for the 100K mile warranty. They replaced the battery, put new Continental Contact tires on, fixed a bad contact on the sunroof and replaced both cupholders. From what I can tell, everything else looks like new (finish, leather, etc.).
1. At least to me, this seems like a really good deal, especially since it is now a Saab Certified car. What things/questions should I be looking for/asking? This dealer did not sell it originally but I feel that the salesperson could find out the reason why the previous owner traded it.
2. Any opinions about the durability/longevity of the V6? I have heard that this engine was actually designed by GM. Is this correct?
3. What kind of mileage do those of you with the V6/auto combination get on the highway? My wife and I both drive 450 miles/week to work.
Any other info/help would be most welcome.
