Ignore the DTE. Use your tripmeter (next to the odometer), and reset it everytime you fill the tank. My DTE reset itself a few months ago- went from 60 to 10, then the car ran out of gaz 1 mile from home- obviously it was still wrong even after it reset itself.
I didn't stop for gas because the SID said I had more than enough to get home. I usually go about 400 miles before filling up again, but was just back from a long trip so I was pushing 500 miles. 501 was too much.
