You have to loosen and move aside the fuse and relay box to make it easy. The trick is adjusting the new one. There is a 3 or 4 mm hole in the top of the transmission with a hard rubber plug in it. Pull the plug and use a suitable drill bit to lock the gear box in 4th. If you pull up the leather boot there is a similar hole for a drill bit to lock the shifter in 4th. Then you tighten the pinch bolt.
It may be a problem with the ball joint inside the gear lever housing too. I would start by pulling up the boot and looking there.
