I consider myself hard-core stick shift driver. Two of my Saab 9000's are 5-speed, but my wife's 02 9-5 Liear auto slowly grows on me. I too have bad knees and sometimes strugle with shifting. The 9-5 auto in the Sport mode shifts exactly like I do with my 5-speed- I love it. Yes, it drops mpg, who cares! It picks up speed a lot faster than I can shift through the gears. I think Saab did a very good job in programming shifting points. In fact, once I can no longer upkeep my 98 CSE- 9-5 wagon Aero auto will be the replacement.
