We have to rethink battery testing strategy Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Wed, 13 Feb 2013 09:16:58 In Reply to: Re: Thanks - Bullet dodged, JeffSm, Tue, 12 Feb 2013 19:35:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It doesn't work anymore to think like we did 20 years ago with batteries.
In the last few years I have had more dead batteries not responding to jumper cables or battery charger than ever before.
Just last week I got a car in for some unrelated work. No complaints from customer about starting issues.
When I was done, the starter just clicked and since I had had the doors open and ignition on for awhile (a few minutes) while scanning the car, I thought it might be a dead battery but also that the battery might be weak since a few minutes should not kill it.
I put my garage charger on it for 30 min and after that, the starter just clicked rapidly like before.
So in just one quick swoop, the battery died then and there without having shown any evidence of going bad up until then and it also refused to take any charge.
Installing a new battery fixed it right away. It was a 7 year old Die Hard so it was overdue.
