We have the Britax Advantage seat installed in our 9-5 and it is a great seat. It's pricey but I can't recommend it highly enough. Although it's not a LATCH seat it adjusts easily and, more importantly, it stays adjusted very well. Also, it fits great in the 9-5 in either of the outboard rear seating positions.
The only advantage to the LATCH system is that it takes the guesswork out of the installation of the car seat. LATCH is not inherently safer than a properly installed seat without the LATCH system. Remember that greater than 50% of all car seats are installed incorrectly. Find a local expert to show you how to do it properly. Check with your local Police department. They will either have an officer who is specially trained and certified or they can refer you to someone.
Our son just turned 15 months today and he's a whopping 32 pounds and just a tick under 36 inches. He was 10lbs 3oz at birth and 22.75 inches. His first infant car seat lasted about five minutes before he outgrew it. He's been in the Britax ever since.
