Just wanted to share this unusual experience.
Subject car-02 Linear automatic.
It all started with increasing number of "Brake Light Failure" messages that I could not remedy.
Today, while driving, my wife heard a pop and thought trunk got opened, stopped, trunk was closed. As soon as she touched the brake pedal- all the lights came on- TCS, ABS, Triangle,Parking Brake, no CEL. I was right behind her and new that ABS repair is coming.
Well, we could not get it out of "Park". I used emergency pin and we made it home.
There was no usual clicking sound when brake pedal was depressed. There were no Brake Lights either (thank you John Myers!)and I thought the brake switch was bad. Got a good used one, replaced- same problem, no clicking.
And then it hit me- Brake Lights fuse! It sure was blown! I took all the bulbs out in the rear- one of them was 1157 bulb that had nothing to do in there and melted some plastic.
I remember Swedecar's post about wrong bulb that caused a no-start. This is another one of those weird things:)
Moral of the story- some of those 10 year old bulbs need to be changed, especially if PO was not very meticulous about proper maintenance.
