I thought many of the 2006+ cars had silver coloured roof rails? not sure if that is matte chrome, but certainly common up here in Canada.

I imagine the bolts were updated for safety reasons with load and speed. Many of the 2004+ wagons up here had the rails deleted. Imho they are one of the great advantages of wagons. We wanted a wagon but I originally was passing the rail-deleted ones up, but maybe they have the internal mounting points and all I'd need to do is visit a junk yard and drill... for now we are living with a sedan - it was too good of a bargain to pass up...
