Automatic, I presume?
I wouldn't even bother with it. Far better to simply drain & fill 4 quarts every second oil change to keep the ATF "fresh". If it's not been done, do a complete flush using 12 quarts, 4 at a time, with driving in between, and that'll get 85-90% of the old fluid out, replaced by fresh. There's a magnet on the drain plug that collects "stuff", and the two times I've done it (different cars) there wasn't much "stuff" on the drain plug either time.
The "short form" for the flush using 12 quarts of fluid:
1) drive car until warmed up (temp gauge at "N"). I try to use all selectable gears (when appropriate! Don't try to use first gear on a highway!) while doing this, to make sure fluid has moved everyplace.
2) Park. With foot on brake, shift trans through each gear that is selectable, maintaining each gear for 15-30 seconds.
3) put car on lift/ramps/whatever. Shut off car.
4) drain transmission pan. You will get about 4 quarts out.
5) replace plug (use a fresh washer on the last one)
6) Put in 4 quarts of the appropriate ATF for the transmission. Dexron III or equivalent for the 4-speed (up thru MY 2001), 3309/Toyota T-IV for the 5-speed (MY2002-)
6a) A note on the last fill: put in 3 quarts, then check the level. Add only a little at a time until the level is in the proper range on the dipstick. Oh, and no real need to drive around again.
7) Take car off ramps. Drive around. A few miles should be sufficient to get things circulated. Again, I try to use all selectable gears.
8) return to step 2 and repeat until out of fluid.
