The symptoms point to a failing Crank Postion Sensor (CPS). If you are really energetic, you can take some resistance measurements when it is hot and cold. A good sensor should be in the 800-1000 ohm range.
A new CPS is around $70. It is located near the flywheel on the front of the engine and is mounted with one T-30 Torx screw. There should be a small metal shield over it. It is easier to get to if you remove the intake tube that goes from the intercooler to the throtle body. The connector on the end of the harness is up where the two O2 sensor connectors are.
