I have compared the Ina (labelled w molded 'Dayco') and Gates tensioners that I described in OP. I plan to return the Gates unit. There is more than one Gates tensioner available from the vendor with whom I ordered. The one I got has a really solid looking center section to mount to the block, but it has a strong "tilt" between mounting boss and the tensioner arm - it looks like it will always have a deflection from the plane of the belt when the belt is on it. Since a unit that I replaced on our '99 SE a while ago had enough of this effect that it scuffed the TC cover, I don't go for that idea. The Ina unit has a much smaller "tilt" under the preload as shipped. A "dayco" unit from that same vendor is $9 less than the Gates I bought.
