As the gurus are silent, here is my humble opinion...
Try to find out what Saab recalls/campaigns have been done on the car. The list should include ECU ('engine computer'), crankcase ventilation fix, banjo bolt (coolant flow to the turbo?), engine chain cover (leaking oil)... More on: http://www.townsendimports.com/Saab_TSB_Folder/Saab_TSB_List
What's the history with the turbo---has it been replaced (blue smoke out of the tailpipe on cold starts)?
People on this list have reported (sudden?) Direct Injection module failures.
How's the SID (Saab Info Display)---are all segments working?
Check the radio reception quality. I'm not satisfied with it, though it's not broken.
Three months ago I purchased a 9^5'98 2,3LPT, 67.000 km. During that period:
- supposedly the turbo started leaking the oil into the exhaust (blue smoke). Waiting for the replacement.
- the passenger door lock got stuck in Theft Security Lock position. It took 1,5 day of locksmith specialist work to 'break-in' without breaking the interior panel. The lock had to be replaced.
- just yesterday the interior fan became very noisy. I'm yet to find out what's wrong with that.
Good luck.
